From what i have picked up reading posts on here you need a live wire to your ignition and an earth wire to a solid earthing point, run some wires to some speakers and bob's your uncle

To power the unit, there will be three wires, one which goes to a constant 12V (plug that onto the starter solenoid or similar) and another plug that goes to the accessories (On the Oz cars, there is a large white wire under the steering column. I just attached the CD player wire to insulator along with the other accessories. Every car should have something like this). The constant 12V is just to power the clock and keep settings, the accessories wire usually powers the unit when driving. The third wire is a ground.
The speakers are just two wires per speaker, that plug into the back of the Cd player/radio head unit (assuming you're not using an external amplifier). When you get the unit, just look at the back to see what goes where. When you buy speakers, they usually come with the wiring required, but the connector depends on the connector on the head unit.
If you check the instructions on your head unit, it should say if you need a fuse. Most have inbuilt fuses, but it would be best to put a fuse in line with the wire that attaches to the 12V, otherwise a short can start a fire. The accessories circuit is already fused.
So in all, you'll need a wire to the 12V (this is usually a red wire), a wire to the accessories (mine is yellow), a grounding wire (this is usually black) and a fuse for the 12V wire. That will get your head unit up and running. Then just two wires for each speaker.

when you get your head unit you will have a wiring diagram stating what colour wire is what e.g yellow is the ignition, i connected the yellow to the top connection on the fuse box and the red (permenant live) to the starter solenoid then the positive and negative to each speaker i think the rears are green (positive) green and black (negative), purple (positive) purple and black (negative) but i cant remember which colour is left and right, but in all fairness its very easy just follow the guide
Problem is I got given my headunit kindly by someone but it doesn't have any sort of wiring diagram with it
