I think they are 1/4", 1.25" long, but I thought they were UNF until I found an old one which looked more like UNC! I forgot to bring it back with me to check >_<

there are 4 of them in each door lock/catch that go right through.

There are a couple of different ones used on different cars I believe. I had some that are 5/16 BA.

These are on an 80's Mayfair, and the holes in the lock are only about 6.8mm so I'm sure they are 1/4", but they could perhaps be some funny thread as they didn't look like UNF's to me!

I've had a re-think, I think it's BSF. When I found these odd threads I was re-cutting the threads in a brand new, Heritage door to clear them of paint. I had to buy a new tap for it which sadly I don't have with me now or I could tell you for certain. I will be able to get it in a couple of hours and check. I know there is some BA stuff in the dash that is confusing me, I just remember having to buy this special tap but it was over 10 years ago now.

Not all threads are actually named according to their major diameter, if it's not UNF or UNC or Metric then the size names are based on a table usually rather than a size. So it might be called 5/16 but not actually that big. It just sticks in my mind that that was the size I had to buy. But I could me just imagining it all! I'll know when I get hold of the tap in a bit.

I might be missing something- but those both have different threads. The top one is UNF but the bottom one is way too coarse a thread, which is what I have, but want to know the actual thread!

I think, but could be totally wrong, they have sort of 'self tapping' thread and hence probably don't conform to an usual thread form dimensions.

Just for a last go- is there a definitive answer from anyone else who would like to contribute?

I'm sorry I forgot to pickup the taps at my storage place yesterday. Knew I forgot something.
