I've just gone onto thr website, and its saying that before i get a quote, i have to be able to say yes to the following statements, im under 25, the car is not garaged and it is not completely standard...

Where you car is not standard, you're the same age as me too....?!

This comes up quite often. Ignore the website and telephone them directly. I'm sure they will cover you.

Should have tried Peter James, ive a similiar spec to yours, non standard 1275 etc but with more mods declared, with recovery and is less than £1300 fully comp :)

Im 17, with no ncb too ;)

It will pay to ring both companies. FJ covered my son's Mk1 with mods when he was 17 for £ 1100 fully comp. same the following year, then this year wacked it up to £ 1300 with no explanation. Peter James offered the same cover for half this price.
Also bear in mind you will not gain any more no claims bonus on these classic policies.

I believe that is the case, but be sure to ask. What these companies will do is write you a letter stating that you have been insured with them for however long it may be and that during that time you have made no claims. This is useful if you move to another company who do award no claims bonus and may well give you extra no claims on the strength of the letter.

Insurance prices have gone through the roof over the past couple of years.

When I first started driving at 18 (sept 2007) in an 89 998 City E it cost me £650 for my first year. Second dropped to £420 odd. Iv since changed to a 91 cooper and its risen again to £770 this year - after 3 years no claims (though im not fully comp and driving a 1275, stage 1 kit & mods declared).

I wonder what figure they'll pick out of the air this september?

I got insured with Footman James yesterday for £109 fully comp with unlimited mileage, free breakdown recovery and a 3750 agreed valuation. (I'm 37 though).

Last year the premium was double this. What changed is that I got FJ to accept that I was a member of a club. This made a huge difference to the premium. If you use their website you'll find very few mini clubs are accepted but if you ring them then they'll accept any club. Joining Surrey Hills Mini Group cost me £15 and saved me £100 on my insurance and gets me a discount at Mini Speed.

Thats a good point. I was wondering if they also accept TMF+... Makes the small membership fee quite worthwhile
