Does anyone have an anti run onvalve fitted and do they work.I have seen one in this months Mini World (page 52) and was considering getting one.Would like some opinions and possible alternatives as i do not like stalling the car in gear or flooding with fuel when turning the ignition off,

Cars should only be fitted with them if the running on is not caused by a fault. Most cars that run on do so because they are out of tune or otherwise broken. Very few Minis have a designed state of tune that will lead to running on, largely because running on only happens when something is overheating in the combustion chamber which is not great.

As said they were fitted to Rover Coopers bolted to the servo bracket, I use one with success on my Mini which is the same type as in Miniworld and was bought from a breakers very cheaply when taken from an A-Series engined Metro (only fitted to 1275 as standard I think). I believe they were originally factory fitted as the later carb 1275 A-Series was prone to running on due to lower emissions requiring running at leaner mixtures and unleaded petrol.

My car does have a 10.5cr,i have read this is a common problem with high compression engines.

I'd never heard of these before I read this months miniworld. I think its exactly what I need as my overrun annoys me quite a bit! (I have a properly setup high compression engine).

Does anybody know if similar valves can be bought elsewhere? as £70 is a bit steep!

Other cars use the same valve.

There are 2 possible approaches...

Either, introduce more air in to the manifold (bypassing the carb), like the Cooper one - any decent sized solenoid valve would do, like an idle air valve off an injection car.

Or, apply some suction to the fuel float chamber to stop the fuel being sucked through the jet. It may even work the other way round: if you enrich the mixture. This is a bit trickier to do, especially if you're using a HS carb, some HIF's already have the suction ports in place for part throttle weakening.

or take off the head and give it a good decoke usually helps, using decent fuel like shell can help too

Before I fitted a Metro anti-run on valve I used to let the engine idle for a minute and just before finally switching engine off, pull the choke out to full on, this has a cooling effect and stopped the run-on most times. If I forgot to do this, switching off immediately, especially after a hard run usually resulted in running on which is not good for your bearings.

my car runs on when using 91-95 RON fuel.. on 98, no issues what so ever..

when i do use cheap fuel and it does run on, I just put it in 2nd gear and gently release the clutch, forcing the engine to stall.
