hi i have got a 1988 mini city 1000e, i have the vin number and the reg number, but it is cat c so needs to have a vic check done, the problem is that there is no vin plate under the boot just two rivet holes where it should be, where on this car should i find the vin number, there are some numbers in the scuttle plate rain channel and the ones i can make out so match part of the VIN i have been given, but i cannot make the full number out, will i have to remove the paint to enable me to vies it, the engin number matches as well, but i dont have th v5 was sent to re register the car i did not know it tas cat c but its only a damaged wpanel above rear drivers wheel.

where else can i check on the car for the VIN is it hiding anywhere else that the VIC people can find so i can get it passed

cheers

under the Bonnet it should be stamped in the 'water run off area' round the engine bay.

will have to check, so there is only three places

1, vin plate (missing)
2, Scuttle plate (can just make out some numbers)
3, under bonnet water drains, or is that the scuttle plate bit

is there no where else that can be checked to make sure the car and engine match so i can get the car registered again once the work has been finished

Yes the post above is referring to the scuttle gutter, that's the only place it's stamped. Your car must have a VIN plate as well, it's a legal requirement and you shouldn't be able to pass a VIC without one. Get a new one properly reverse stamped, it's perfectly legal providing you aren't comitting fraud.

I think Mini Mail do them, you will need to prove that you own the vehicle in question though which is tough without documents. Although a V5 doesn't prove title anyway, do you have a receipt?
