hi guys.. i'm daenesh from Malaysia and I own a 1978 mini clubman which has been running well.. recently i have been driving to and about without any problem but when i come home, i let the car idle for 5 minutes just to make sure everythings okay.. but the car usually shuts off by itself after that..i've checked the fuel pump, fuel filter, and carburetor and found no problems.. the car has fuel and the battery is fully charge.. if i crank once it starts up but once the engine dies it can't start up and i notice the level of fuel in the fuel filter is very low and there is no fuel in the reservoir beside the carburetor... can anyone pls help me with this problem?? i would be so grateful.. i want to know why the fuel level drops in the fuel filter, its like the fuel is running bank into the tank which is not possible right..

If the vent pipe on the petrol tank is blocked then air can't be drawn in to replace the petrol as the engine uses it and that causes problems with fuel starvation. A quick test for this is to remove the petrol cap, the problem would go away as you let in lots of air.

Could also be a crushed fuel line, or partially blocked fuel pipe.
Try running it with the petrol cap off first though, since it costs nothing to try.
