Just secured a MIG welder and hope to start practicing after a 20 year gap.

Can anyone confirm what the general steel thicknesses are on the structural elements and body panels.

Many thanks

1.2 mm is found on the bulkhead cross member and rear heel board. 0.9mm is used virtually everywhere else on the shell. If you try to use 1.2mm thick steel on the floor it will not sit flush on one side. It does not matter if its somewhere that you don't see the other side.

It all depends on what sort of finish you are going for really, for me as i'm building the car back to original spec then i use the right thickness in the areas needed. Its personal choice really.

Yer i read it wrong, thought you were asking purely about structural.

20 guage for general body, 18 for structural. Alhough with it being a monocoque its all structral, but thats a topic fo a different day :)

1mm is the metric equivalent of 20 swg these days, I find this works well on the mini panels. It will be fine to butt weld 1mm into the mini

Cheers
