An easy test is to bridge the two plugs on the fuel tank with a piece of wire/paperclip. If the gauge then reads full your sender is broken. If its still empty its your gauge thats broken. All major Mini parts suppliers sell sender units. Minispares for example.

however, saying that... does your temperature gauge work, if not, then it's probably not the gauge at all but the voltage stabiliser.

have u tried replacing ur sender unit. my problem was all fixed by replacing that. have u ever replaced the sender unit in the tank as it seems the old stock ones seem to not last as long as new stock. :)

DO NOT go replacing parts until you know whats broken or needs replacing. That kind of advice will end up making people spend a fortune form somethng simple.

The sender MAY have fixed yours Lucas, But might not be Sams problem.

Sam, do the sender unit checks first. Bridge the terminals on the tank in the boot, see if the guage goes up.

Do the same with the Temp guage if that is also not reading. (simply pull the wire off the sender under the bonnet ont he right hand side of the engine, and ground it)

If neither of the guages go up, then use a volt tester to see if you have 12v + going to the voltage stabiliser. If its an old single center dash, its bolted to the back of the speedo, if its a cluster behind the wheel its internal and much harder,

If you ave 12v+ there, then the voltage stabiliser is probaby dodgy.

hi, i have the same problem, no fuel gauge reading and no temp sensor reading, also none of the lights on the consol work (im sure the oil light should come on when the ignition is on, before start up) does this sound like the voltage stabiliser? and has anyone else had any luck with their problems so far?

cheers, gibson.
