hey all,

just got my first mini, a 1980 1275GT a few days ago and already have contracted a very severe case of mini-itis. Its my first mini and my first old car so its going to be an interesting ride  Never so much as changed a spark plug before as all my cars have been modern sports cars usually so i've got the Haynes manual on the way and hopefully some patient people on the forum ^_^

Engine has been mildy worked with a MG Metro head, HI44 carb Kent 266 cam and what i assume is LCB extractors and a RC40 box. Interior is pretty standard apart from some Metro seats. Seems quick enough (for now.....) and what a blast thru the twisties!

just one question though, how can i tell if the mini heater is actually working ? it feels like there might be an asthmatic breathing on my leg but its pretty hard to tell

and now, pics!

Hi and welcome to TMF. Thats a nice looking clubbie. With regards to the heater blower it should give a reasonable blast of air either into the cabin or through the windscreen vents.

It may be as simple as a broken switch which is what we had on our clubman. We slaved in another switch and that was it cured. There are only 2 wires to the switch a power in and out. I did find a badly crimped wire as well when i dropped the heater heater unit down to check it out.

to be honest i'm not sure yet. It needs to be able to be a daily driver for at least 6 months or so, so nothing to radical. I'd love to do the build Calver discusses in Mini Expert eventually (i think 1360 plus all the goodies) but at the moment i'm going to struggle just to do an oil change  I need to join the local mini club i think and try and kidnap/befriend some more mechanically minded types to help me out

if anyone has any suggestions for some mild mods i'm all ears, but parts are quite a bit more costly over in NZ than the uk
