just been to tescos and picked up the classic car news paper, and in it was an article saying that cars built before '65 (i think) will become exempt from having an mot test, and that it was down to the owners of said vehicles to keep them legal, safe and road worthy!

Im not sure if this is a good thing, or a bad thing myself, considering how many minis (and other cars) have been rung and reshelled into later cars

Bad thing and I can't belive that this can be taken seriously!! Cars that are capable of 100mph should be road worthy and the definition of road worthy cannot be leaft in the hands of the owner!!

EXACTLEY !!!! completely stupid idea what about all the boy racers or idiots who want to keep a little bit cash they will buy pre 65 classics and just leave them until they crash get caught or kill themselves/someone there not gonna check there car is legal they're just gonna race it and abuse them which for classic enthusiasts is ok we would but still a bad idea but for the idiots who would abuse this law wouldnt bring anygood to ANYONE!!!!

think of all the "restored/reshelled" pre 65 minis that come crawling out the wood work if this law comes in, the roads will be flooded with ringers just to avoid having to pay out for an mot....

can't see this ever happening. unless the goverment think they will get more cash through old bill from pulling cars and dishing out tickets rather than from the MOT's

cars of that age need an MOT more than any other car, not the other way round!

i lived in Orkney for a couple of years, there cars dont need an MOT if they aint going to leave the island. its up to the driver to keep the car roadworthy, and have to say 90% of cars are kept in good MOTable condition. the few that are not (normally builders vans) are soon reported to the police and they come down heavy on you if your caught!

That's stupid, what happens if you think your car is road safe but you don't notice. An MOT will pick that up but if you don't have it MOTed, it's dangerous to the driver, passengers and anybody else outside the car. Dumb idea, they harp on about how speed cameras help save lives; this won't >_<
