How would a 1380 7 port perform against a pro-motive sub framed R1 engined mini?
1380 7 port - 120bhp and 100 ft ibs
R1 - 150 bhp and 80 ft ibs
I appreciate that there are many variables, but humour me.

R1 you will poo your pants my friend.
they are cheaper than the 1380.
Ah the poo test!
I actually think all in they cost the same. The thing is my current mini would not be 'accepted' by the powers that be here in Sweden as its a later 1996.
So a promo kit would mean a project car, I have no garage to facilitate that.BUT we heard some news today that we may be swapping our city apartment to a more mini friendly house with garage. So that open up that possibility!

personally i would have to say i would rather stick with an A series engine, sorry to sound boring but i like the idea of having tried and tested parts that are "on the shelf" and thousands of guys all over the country who are fully equiped with the tools and knowledge to get the best out of an A series.
my mate owns the grey clubman fronted sprint that has been seen on here before at castle combe etc, and its an amazing machine, the only thing that puts me off is that its a bit impractical really, but that depends on what you want to do with it as asomeone else mentioned....
if its going on the road, 7 port, if its purely a track car, bike engine.

i love R1 convertions

Regarding the 7 port set up, I was set on having the SC head on TB and there figures show 120bhp. And a reasonable nice torque and power curve.
Anyone any idea on a 0-60 figure on both options (7 port vs pro mo r1 kit), I guess 0-60 is a good tangible way to compare?
Regarding use: well with my current car, is my second car and not my daily. I only use it April - October, but during that time i try and use it as much as i can, which includes a show and/or a wee blast at the weekends and a 15km motorway trip to work.
I think though irrespective of 7port or r1 I would likely use the car for some trackdays; so that would be a consideration too.
I must also add the 7porter would be dropped into my current car but the prokit would be used as part of a project car.

that said, i found a 3 cyl turbo (G10T) swift engine, reliable, super cheap on gas, quick, light and 5 speed

with all the new heads available i've been wondering the same thing. what turns me off the 7 port is that you end up needing a s/c gearbox to cope with the extra power, for me this tips the scale in favour of the promotive kit. i'm sure there's a way to tune the final drive for a more friendly highway rpm, bigger wheels for highway, smaller wheels for track day

What puts you off the s/c gearbox? Cost or noise?
I wondered about how to make the r1 kit be more motor way friendly!
I also guess they ( r1) are pretty loud, I remember a member here complaining about his, I am sure this could be dampened with adequate soundproofing

With a 120bhp 1380 i'd expect 0-60 in around 7-8 seconds, maybe a little less.
Would you be going with carbs or injection on the 7 port? Injection would be better and would help driveability with hotter cams.

According to the promo website, 0-60 is around 4.5 seconds depending on your gearing/tyres etc. This is probably because they're lighter and can rev much higher so you can stay in the power longer.

would need to be injection!
wow 4.5 seconds that is pretty impressive.
