I get a loud scream from clutch when i set off in 1st, was told it was the clutch release bearing, so i changed that, but im still getting the noise.
What else could it be? Worn clutch arm? Worn flywheel housing cover?
Car is a 89 998 with 106k on the clock
Thanks Iain.

Just a thought but could it be your fan belt? I had similar symptoms and that is all it was.

Definatley coming from clutch, its a deeper noise than a slipping fan belt

Bump. I am interested in the subject. My Cooper SPI makes sometimes a similar noise. It depends on RPM'S and the clutch pedal being half way out. I was thinking release bearing too.

I got told it was the release bearing so went ahead an changed that but still getting noise. Like you say though it can do it an then not do it depending on revs an clutch position, sounds bloody awful when it does it.
