I had a New Meriva 1.4 as a hire car and although not over impressed it was ok but designed for fuel economy.
I thought I'd pop the bonnet and look at the engine as not sure what block it was using.

It looked so small, then noticed the badge on the boot that said "Turbo" . Well you would never guess by the performance
there was a turbo in there. This got me thinking to look up the performance spec for this car and found they come in
118 bhp 5 speed and a 138 bhp 6 speed, all from standard.

Its also in the projects section, not mini chat. At the end of the day its a small block vauxhall, which no doubt you've read fits. The width of the engine isn't really relevant, as its not going to be any wider than a big block, which people know already fits. The depth is most important, and with having a turbo bolted to the front isn't really going to help space issues, when a standard manifold is hard enough. I'm not sure what the inlet design is like, but I'd guess its not suitable for a mini conversion unless cutting a massive chunk out of the bulkhead. You cant use throttle bodies as its a forced induction motor. That leaves you with a custom inlet which wont be cheap. Also consider its probably fly-by-wire instead of a full cable throttle.

Now considering you can get ~160bhp with a 1.6 small block and throttle bodies, which solves the bulkhead problem, and front mounted radiator issues are easier because you don't have a weedy turbo stuck in the way, I'd say its a complete waste of time.

It looks a good engine though, and would be different to all the usual 1.6/1.8/2.0 conversions that are done. id say go for it if who ever wanted to do it :) Harber teres one simple way round the space issue, get a clubman front :L

could throw it on ITB's still, but you will need a custom plenum...theres only 1 thing that would really need to be done with that engine though, chuck that boost up! (and get that engine cover off)
