Hi Guys,

can anyone shed any light on the wirig system on an mpi mini, i'm afraid mpi's are all new to me after twenty years of normal minis.
i have a problem on my mpi which has been there since i bought it from a guy off here.
the problem is the heater, wipers, radio, etc all work with the ingintion turned off, ie key not even in. this is causing my battery to drain over night, i always have to charge the battery before i use it.
i have disconnected the plug from the ingnition switch thinking it may be a faulty switch but with this disconnected the heater and wipers still work.

i don't have a wiring diagram or a haynes manual for a 1998 mpi mini and need help in where to look in the wiring system to source the reason for all these things being live.

dont really want to have to take it to a auto electrician as it will probably cost a fortune.

help please.

Quick update, lights work as well so that's everything electrical apart from the indicators that works without the ignition on. I have disconnected the alternator and ignition switch but everything still works. I swapped the black plastic thing near the servo but not sur what this is, but still no joy. Any ideas anyone. At the moment I have a friends Mpi same year here too and I have checked the starter cables and fuse box and everything matches up.???

with this i managed to sort my problem out, but i can't help thinking there is a nutter on the loose out there. as stated, i bought my MPI off a guy on the here, the problem has been there since day one when i bought it off him. the lights, wipers, washer, heater and radio all worked without thhe ignition key in.

turns out some idiot had connecetd the purple and orange live wire on the radio wiring harness to the light green wire making everything live.
