hey everyone
i have a problem with the rear fog light.... it isn't working! i have an 87 mini, the fog light is below the rear drivers side lights n i press the switch it doesn't work!

i have taken the bulb out n it looks fine, also had the switch out n thats looks ok to. the wires around these places look ok to. but i can't locate where the wires go after leaving the switch because they disappear to god knows where! :)

any ideas anyone?

thanks
Matt

Have you checked the earth on the inside of the boot I think, thats normally what causes electrical probs. Failing that you need to get your multi meter out and check circuit.

madmax also had thsi problem, though it was with most of the electrics no the car, first thing to always check is its earth, though iv found that wirebrushing the connections into the fues box helped alot!(solved most of the electrical gremlins from corrosion) apart from this use a multi meter as blue mini said.

rear fog light is earthed with the rest of the rear lights using the left hand boot hinge nut inside the car, it is also connected just inside the right hand underneath the rear lights inside the boot.. when you open the boot you should see the wire's.

also the rear fog only works, if you have your headlights on! you don't mention how you are testing so i am just generalising at the moment.

the fog light swith connects to the wiring loom inside underneath the dash board.

using a multimeter, turn on ignitin and lights, remove the connector from behind the switch and check to see if you have power, going into the switch. if you do then you can place the switch partchally on, turn the swith on, and then check to see if you have power coming out of the switch, if no power out, change switch and retry, then when you have power out of switch, replace the bach to teh switch fully, almost forgot, the rear light, plus the internal light, have got inline splices in the engine compartment, just underneath or in teh area of teh left hand wiper wheel box, have a look here to see if any wire as come loose, also using dr haynes find out which colour wire is your fog light and check that, it could have eroded there. after that check the connections in the boot. if you have power at the connections and a good earth, then you need to clean up the connections in the fog light it's self
