as above, i got myself a netbook thingy today, as my laptops broke, and i wanted something smaller to carry around, as im not always at home. Anyway, it hasnt got a cd drive thingy, so if i bought an external usb plug in one, would it work? Thanks.

yeah, when my macbook was getting repaired i got a netbook and used an external cd/dvd :)

they make them plug and play because quite a few people buy them for their netbooks as they do not already have one built in. just look for plug and play, but im sure most of them will be

If you need an external DVD drive for a netbook for anything other than OS installation or installing small applications, I'd say you've bought the wrong device for your needs.

However, you are correct in thinking that the USB external drives work fine with them. I've got one for my netbook as I wanted to change OS.

well, i wanted a small computer, that will fit easier in my bag, so i dont have to carry the computer seperately,as i often stay away from home. i wanted a cd drive, so i can make cds for storing data and stuff on :) and for uploading music to ipod. thanks anyway.

That's fair enough, I just mean you can get some pretty small laptops these days which have burners included and maybe they would be more suitable? Plus, you've not really saved alot of space if you've got to lug around a huge 5 1/2" cd burner with you now.

I'm only saying this as I bought my netbook for similar reasons to you, after a few months passed, the novelty of its size wore off and it became irritating to use for everything other than browsing the internet.
