Spi Engine Into Mk2 Shell?

Model: cooper spi, austin mk2
Year:1993, 1968
Hi,
I have a mini cooper spi from '93 with the mechanics in perfect working order but the shell has gone a bit rusty in pretty much every area. My friend has a solid shell from an 1968 austin mini (I'm assuming this makes it a mk2 shell). My question is can I transplant the engine from my spi into the mk2 and if so what alterations/extras will I need?
Thanks in advance for any help.

So the answer is yes

Not sure how it will effect the MOT, as the emissions test should follow the engine, ie a later engine needs a more stringent emissions test.
Both the inner wings are specific to later cars, the right hand side has the ECU bracket the left has the fan

Fuel tank, fuel lines, some brackets for the ECU and other parts.

Can I mount the spi engine on the mk2 subframe or can I use the subframe from the spi on the mk2?
Is it possible just to cut out part of the passenger side inner wing to accommodate the fan or would it need a new inner wing?
Can I use the fuel tank and lines from the spi on the mk2?
Thanks again

The opposit will also be true.....trying to fit an older sub in a newer shell.
Also....doesn't the spi sub have the engine mounts slightly more forward.....? ( or maybe that's the mpi?)

The tank form the SPI would be required, however you will find the brackets need some head scratching, and cut the hole in the front of boot floor for the pipes before fitting the tank....

BUT the age of the car can affect the MOT test
as emission don't really count all that much with pre 71 cars.

if the newly fitted engine comes with emissions controls then it must be tested to the year of the car the engine was obtained from, so your emissions will be done on the SPI not the 68 Carb.
could get around this by just carbing the engine.
sorry martin
its pre 65 cars you can dump any engine in cause there got rid of the emissions test and its just body inspection now

The subframe from the spi will not work in a pre 1976 car due to different tower and rear front mounts. ( plus the MkII is most likely a wet sub unless from a long wheel base car )
The opposit will also be true.....trying to fit an older sub in a newer shell.
Also....doesn't the spi sub have the engine mounts slightly more forward.....? ( or maybe that's the mpi?)
Does that mean I wouldn't be able to put the spi engine in the mk2 at all or would I be able to stick the spi engine on the mk2 sub?
Really appreciate all the advice.

And the emissions have no relevance for you as they either apply to the engine, or the car in either case your SPI engine will be fine
