Hi...i painted a couple of panels on my mini..primed..based..then 1pack laquered..after a week i was leaning on the wing and when i moved there was a ribbed area where my sleeve had been!! Gutting to say the least but i don't know why the paint is still soft...did i need to put hardener in the laquer? Any possible reasons or remedies appreciated...Baz

are you sure its all single pack?
the obvious one is that its 2-pack laquer & you missed out the activator.
other causes could be old stock celly laquer/paint
a miss match of products
are we talking rattle cans or proper automotive (spray) paint?

thanks for your reply...it is spray gun paint...1-1 basecoat (base/thinner) Def 1 pack laquer ?? Is it likely it will stay soft now? What can i do if so apart from the dreading strip and repaint!!

If it's lacquer then the ratio is correct 1:1 and that should have been touch dry within 30 minutes or so and should have been followed by a 2K clear coat mixing 2:1 clear lacquer to hardner and around 10% thinner.

Generally, single stage auto paint is either the nitro type which mixes glossy paint with nitro thinner or the single stage with hardener added which mixes glossy paint 2:1 hardener + 10% thinner.

Are you sure you got the right type of paint with the appropriate thinner ? Paint varies in drying time due to how much humidity is in the air, the more humidity the longer it takes to dry but yours is certainly a very unusal drying time and should have hardened by now.

Start by checking what paint, thinner combination you got. It might be the case that you got the wrong thinner for that particular paint. The bad news is that if the paint is still soft after all this time then the only way to fix it is to either strip it down or you might possibly get away with careful sanding but this is very risky as the finish might have some very unpredictable and unpleasant results.

If it was me I'd check exactly what you bought and take it up with the supplier.

Good luck my friend.

Actually after having read your post again I think you missed out adding the hardener to the lacquer !. Clear coat mixes 2:1 clear lacquer to hardener + approx.10% thinner.

If that's the case then it's best to strip it down as the lacquer will only dry when hell freezes over :).
