I'm looking to buy a vehicle and there is a strange issue with the HPI.

Right,

Looked at an 05 Nissan Navara today, done 30k from new, top spec.

The seller has told me its had one owner from new as it was bought as a company vehicle by his old man (who's retired and now its fallen on his son to sell the truck.)

However, the HPI says its had 2 previous owners as well as the current owner.

The chap is adamant the vehicle has only ever had one owner.

This makes me think the old man has used the vehicle as a tax dodge, selling to himself and then back to the business over the past 6 years.

Everything else checks out, HPI is clear an it is immaculate.

Advice????

Perhaps its had different keepers within the same company or the supplying dealer was a keeper?

I'd thought about the dealer, as it was one of the 1st D40 shape Navara's. Might have been a demo unit for a while.

But the current owner (supposedly the sellers dad) bought it as his company vehicle. Which would explain the first 2 owners.

Oh, and the current (3rd) owner obtained it on the 12/2/2010.

Ask to see the V5 and it will tell you.

Ask to see the V5. This will show who teh current keeper is (section 1) and who the previous keeper is and when they acquired the vehicle (section 2). This may help you out somewhat.

Cheers for the ideas, off to have a look at the V5 tomorrow. I just turned up today so he hadn't got all the docs (at the business).

If the V5 says 0 previous owners, I'm firing the mini up and driving away as fast as I can!!!

As long as the cars service history, mileage, chassis number and all paperwork tally and it's crash and finance free does it matter how many owners it's had.

The concern just lies with the lie from the seller.

If his father bought the car as an ex-demo from the dealer then he may not know he's lying? As far as he's concerned it only has had 2 owners?

We'll know when I see the V5. I'm just really interested who the (2nd) owner was compared to who's got it now.

Even if it falls through, he's offered my deposit back, and Lulu will get a good blast down the A5.

Bought it, all checks out and it drives like a stunner!

Bit sad that I bought it for my mum's birthday and its not mine, but there you go!

Pleased it turned out well for you, there are a lot of scamming gits out there, buyers really need to be on their guard.
