Hi All,

Simple question, i hope!

right now my bonnet is attached by 2 bonnet pins (back) and 2 straps (front) and the result is terrible! i have to say the pins are fine, but the buckle straps are terrible. there's a good inch of movement on the front and clatters about while driving.

I like to be able to completely remove the bonnet, can anyone recommend some front fixings that will hold the bonnet tight? also is there supposed to be a rubber 'buffer' as at the moment it's just metal on metal.

Cheers,

Matt

P.S it's an '82 HL.

I originally fitted the leather straps to the front of mine and experienced exactly the same problem!
They were soon replaced with the spring type fixings...

I found them really good!

I've got the spring fittings like the ones in the picture above, but I also fitted a couple of rubber buffers to the slam panel to avoid the metal on metal issue. I got them from ebay - will try to find a link.

Quick release hinges and a standard catch for the best of both worlds. And yes there are supposed to be buffers in the corners.

Thanks for the replies guys.

how exactly do the springs attach? i take it the hoops go over the hooks, but how does the bottom end attach?

also how well does it hold it down? i'd of though going over a bump would make the bonnet open/close?

Dan: do you mean these?

The nut and bolt secure the other end of the spring, I fitted mine alongside the headlight. The hook fixes to the bonnet using self tapping screws or rivets and you're right that the hoop goes over the hook. Position the spring so that it's under a little tension when secured - my bonnet doesn't seem to move about at all.

No I just mean go back to a standard opening bonnet with quick release hinges instead of pins at the back, and a standard remote catch or springs or rubber toggles at the front. So you have a bonnet that you can easily lift for simple checks but comes off easily for heavier work.
