Please Help...
I am having some problems with my 1984 Mini City E 998cc.
I was driving back home from work the other day and just before reaching home all electrics in the car judt died, from the interior light, engine, everything.... :s
I rolled over to the side of the road and stopped, turned the key in the ignition and the car started again, no problems...
Got home parked car on drive and left for a couple of hours, later in evening went to drive to the local shop, started car and after 100 meters of driving everything died again.
Gave the car a few minutes and then drove back to the house, whilst idling in the driveway i flick some of the switches on the switch panel and the engine died again.
Without touching anything a minute later everything turns on again with the key still set to II in the ignition.
Looked at the fuse box and noticed that the Flasher and Horn fuse had blown, all else seemed ok although the fuse box is the original.
The flasher and horn fuse had not been working for a couple of weeks though and hadn't caused this problem before...
The only real thing that had changed was that yesterday was a little wet and damp, i have had a look around the forum and can't find anything too similar really.
Could the problem be related to a short somewhere and how would i go about diagnosing it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated??
Many thanks
Carl

1st places I'd check are the main connection points.
So check battery terminals are tight and clean. Check earth strap to boot floor is clean and tight.
Engine bay check earth strap is clean, tight and in good condition (should attach either end of the engine steady.
Solenoid which I think on yours should be attached to the inner wing , check the brown wires are all tight.
Another common fault is the battery cable under the car touching the exhaust can cause strange faults.
Check multiplugs inside the car round the steering column.

Thanks for your help with this Steve
I looked in the areas you advised and eventually found the problem was with the earthing cable to the solenoid.
I believe it was shorting out where the previous owner had done some dodgy repair.
This was the cable that also went back to the fuse that kept blowing.
Drove it for 2 weeks now and so far problem solved.
Thanks Again
