I’ve spent most bank holiday weekends and short breaks last year travelling around Great Britain, mostly in my Mini with my partner. I have a paper map of the country which I use to mark each place we visited. I’ve found some great places to take the Mini. We’ve driven along some amazing roads with breathtaking scenery to look at.

I now find myself looking at my map in 2006 thinking where should we go next? Devon and Cornwall probably when the weather improves, and maybe northern Wales and northern Scotland.

Where have you driven your Mini? Is there somewhere that you can recommend?

I've driven to Cornwall twice in a Mini. Makes you realise how small the petrol tank on a Mini is. We even found a petrol station that still fills up the car for you. Confused them a bit with the lead substitute additive:)

minimanclive,

I’ve not experienced any problems with running out of petrol so far (touch wood). My 998 runs on unleaded and I can get about 300 miles plus on a full tank. I carry a petrol can but I’ve never really needed it.

Fuel is pricey these days and if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere you can often find a local petrol station, you just pay through the nose for the convenience. That said, most major towns have a supermarket with a petrol station attached which is generally cheaper than the local.

What is Cornwall like to drive around? Lots of beautiful scenery and interesting roads?

Leonard,

Cheers for the recommendation. We did South Wales last year starting at Hay-on-Wye, through the Brecon Beacons, down to the south coast and then following the coast to Tenby, through Pembrokeshire and up to St.Davids. Then north to Aberystwth and east across Devil’s Bridge back to England. We had a great time in Wales and are planning to go back, this time to the north.

How can you manage 300 miles on one tank? Do you drive at 40 or something? Just curious...

I have a 998cc Mini City E. I tend to drive about 65mph on motorways. I only have one fuel tank although I'm not sure how much it holds. There's a journey that I have to do every so often which is 270 miles. I can get there on a full tank and then use the car for a few days while I'm there before having to get more fuel.

I've never bothered to work out my exact mpg.

Maybe the City 'E' means economical? Dunno.

What do other 998cc owners usually report as average distance on a full tank?
