Mini Spares Red Dot Cones

1991 rover mini (Japanese version)

After installing the red dot cones from mini spares mounted with hi-Los on my pro-motive project found that front ride height is very high even at lowest setting on hi-Lo.
What could be the cause?

As a comparison the following pics show the rear and the front suspension at the lowest setting.

have you used the car yet? cones will settle down.

Got the engine in it yet? Has it moved at all since you put it back on it's wheels? The rear suspension can drop down properly by virtue of the wheels rolling and the radius arms being articulated in line with the wheel. The front suspension can't drop when you put the car down as the wheels need to spread outwards which they can't do unless they are rolling.

Haven't used car yet, I am aware that they will settle down but can't imagine dropping that much???
Is it possible? I have at least 5 1/2 inch gap to the flare.

Engine is in, no interior at this time, car has been moved around but not driven.

I know this might sound stupid, but are the cones in the right way around. This is the only time i've seen the car sit this high!

Put an interiour in and go drive it.

It will drop.
The rear will probably end up rubbing to be honest, and the front will be pretty close to the arch.

The problem is they are harder than the standard cones, and you are useing a lighter engine, so there is less pressure on them to compress them.


Just a thought.
On the off chance that the front doesnt settle as low as you would like. Take the trumpet back out, remove the threaded bar section from it and have the 'pointy end' skimmed down on a mill.
1mm should lower the car 5mm at the front so a little can make a big difference.

ONLY do this if the thread inside the trumpet goes all the way through through. If its just a section at that end which is threaded you will weaken it, and could make it potentially dangerous.

Its well known that you have to machine down the aluminium bit of the hi lo by around 5mm to get the correct hight with the red dot cones and you will have to cut down the screwed part depending one how old the Hi Lo's are. Minispares even suggest this. They will not settle by the amount you want, and they wont settle anywhere near as much as the standard cones.
