When I bought my mini it had Champion C59YC (cold) spark plugs in the 1275 engine.

It was very hard to start when cold and idle was not as smooth as I would like. I put electronics in the dizzy, new coil, replaced the spark plugs with NGK BP6ES, balanced the carbs and retarded the timing (by ear) to get a smooth idle.

Went flying down the road to check color of spark plugs. It was running great but the plugs started out nearly white and as I richened the mix (seven times going down the road and inspecting the spark plugs) the idle fell off and when I finally got the color I liked and the idle speed back up (but not smooth), it has no power! Wouldn't go over 45mph and takes forever to get there. Started out with the mix nut turned out 2 turns and probably turned them out nearly 2 more turns.

Put the Champions back in? Or move down a heat range or two in the NKG's? Or do I need to advance the timing?

I have no idea what has been done to the engine internals. It has a non-vacuum advance dizzy and dual HS2's with M needle and red springs.

Thanks,
Keith
