sadly, due to repeatedly being stopped and being warned by the police due to no front number plate, i ended up with a fine and a "marker" on the mini about 5 months ago,(please dont rape or bash me about this, i know its the law and im a very bad person), meaning that everytime the fuzz see the mini it flags up as having a marker or something, therefore they pull me over, it went through a stage where i got tugged 3 times in a fortnight due to the marker thing, but havent had any grief for a few months, so thought the marker had been removed.

and today they pulled me over twice, as my cars not showing up as insured on their database, as the policy only started today, but a quick call to the insurance company confirmed im insured, and they mentioned that my car has a marker on it for number plate offences. ive had this marker thing for 5 months now, i refitted the front plate the day i recieved the fine, 5 months ago, so is there a way that i can get them to remove this for good? its getting annoying now, and embarassing when im out driving with friends.

Call your local Police station and enquire, they're the only people that can give you a straight black and white answer. It might be better going down to see them so you can show that the plate is fitted.

"The Police are duty bound to ensure that information held is as accurate as possible."

Write or go and see your local police station, include copies of your documnets. Express your full support for proactive policing and go on to say that currently his officers are wasting their own time and yours with these stops. Ask for the flags to be lifted from all databases as it will be beneficial for all parties.

Good luck Sam, hope you get it sorted

I'm really surprised your car is on the 'flag-up' list for such a minor issue Sam. The markers are usually put on vehicles known to be used in connection with crime, or known to be owned by disqualified drivers etc.

Get down to the cop shop and see what they say, I can only imagine what it must be like being stopped all the time... mention the fact that you consider you are being harrassed by the police unfairly.

Sam

Each time you are stopped you should asked for a stop and account record, this entitles you to a record stating the time and date you have been stopped by the police and is also records any actions or no actions the police have taken against you, ask the officer to record on the form that you were stopped due to the information marker recorded against your vehicle on PNC (Police National Computer) it may also be a ANPR marker. The officer may tell you that the police no longer have to record "stop and account" incidents with the public, however these booklets are still widely available to officers and are normally the same as a stop and search booklet anyway.

Once you have a few different stop and account forms (3 or 4, but more the better) you need to write a letter to the chief constable that police the area you live in stating that you have been stopped on such and such a dates due to the information marker and that on each occasion no action was taken because no offences were committed. Ask in the letter for the information marker to be recommed and acknowledge that you understand why the marker was initially placed on your vehicle but point over that the number of stop and accounts you have had with police shows you are no longer committing offences and that repeatedly being stopped for no reason other than the marker makes you feel harassed. Make sure you send copies of all the stop and account forms with the letter.

Should get it sorted for you!

Also remember that repeatedly being stopped by the police on occasions were you have no committed an offence could amount to harrassment.

I had a marker on my first mini, due to the tyres being borderline (too wide outside the arches) got stopped at least twice a week when I was 18. Knew all the coppers by first names in the end.

Some good advice on here!

As far as i'm aware, the motor insurance database doesn't always update instantly and some smaller companies only update twice a week! It appears that the reason you were stopped was to check your insurance the other day! If you carry on getting stopped about the plate ask for the officers advice on how to get the marker removed as he/she can judge that your plate is legal! Did you have to provide any documents to the police to prove you've had it put right?
