with SC you loose less power through the drivetrain so you get more of the power from the engine to the wheels, not sure how much though.

And the look like mini porn, and the sound aint that bad too

but to cut to the chase, SC gears are a close ratio set compared to the standard ( or even GT ) Helical sets...

This means 1st is actualy longer, somewhere between 1st and 2nd on std gearbox, and then 2nd and 3rd fill a smaller gap to the final 4th 1:1 ratio...

This means driving along @ 60 in 4th, you can drop down to 3rd, no hassle, and if you have the engine for it, 2nd is a strong possibility..

and look something like this...

can i tack on another question,

whats the difference between S/C drop gears and S/C gears, or is it just another name for the same thing?

I ask as S/C drop gears are £195.25 from minispares and i like thinking of ways to spend money before i earn it (makes me get up and get to work)

Staright cut drops are a good way of getting that fantastically trouser tent unducing sound of s/c gears without paying the hundreds of £s for a S/C gearset. Only downside is that you don't get the ratios that a S/C gearset would give you.
