a carb, i.e. what model carb it is.

I have a couple of old carbs kicking around in the shed and want to identify them, had a look at the weekend and couldnt see any identifying marks. Am I blind lol.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I have done a search and came up with nothing

Thanks in advance

Dan

mainly inlet size and design eg a HIF looks different to a HS, a hif 44 is 1.75" and a hif 38 is 1.5", not sure on HS

Fist determin what make, if they are SU then there will(may) be a little tag attached to one of the nuts, you can look this up on http://www.burlen.co.uk which will tell you exactly what the carb is...

or stick a pic up !

Essenitially you need to measuer the diameter of the hole, and then the placement of the float chamber...

Cheers for that, I will have another look tonight and see if I can get some pics, prob just standard carbs tho. I had a look at weekend for the little tab under the screws, neither of them had them.

A picture paints a thousand words!!

Look for the tags that might be attached to the dashpots like GW said.

Ok I had a look tonight and cleaned some of the grime off.

there are 3 carbs at the moment all are SU and have AUD9203 on them, and the air inlet thingy says 7468/2

each do have a tag on them as follows

FZX1066
FZX1160
FZX1142

Sorry for been a dumb ass but does this mean anything at all lol ...

All three are pretty much the same apart from one has a red bit at the bottom wheras the other two have metal bits - again explanation is probably a bit C**p here, due to my lack of knowledge of what bits are what

Ohh and if I need to take a photo to put on here from which angle do I take..

Gees I sound thick tonight :|

They are all HS4's. This one is off a 850 and the other 2 are off 1098 engines

Thanks for the info guys ... and Miniboo that site is great, I found another carb and its an AUD363 which I beleive is the original from the Clubby I have, strange thing is the 850cc engine that was on the car had the 998cc AUD363 Carb on it. The spare 998 cc engine I got with the car had the 850cc Carb on it lol.

At least I knwo whats what now. cheers

When I get my car sorted in the months/years to come I will clean up the old carbs and see what I can get for them then
