I may be about to sound like a nerd but vintage clothing is something I'm into
You should definitely check out "Beyond Retro" They have 2 stores in London (Just off of Liverpool street is the flagship, Its huge my mate got a fur coat for £35) and a decent website. Also I cant remember if "Rokit" do suits but they also have a pretty wide stock.
Hope you get what your looking for man

i will check them out, thanks for that.
i didnt manage to get a suit but i got a great sports jacket for the wedding on friday. brownish herringbone, looks amazing, fits like a glove, amazing quality too (£30 off ebay)
paired it up with some brown slacks and a brown tie, white shirt and i have a great pair of vintage boots that i wear to 40s revivals. oh and i also got a great brown and camel trilby. got quite a few compliments at the wedding, mainly from the best men who were all wearing boring grey primark suits lol.
will get some pics on here soon.
there was also another couple there who i used to go to college with who had some great, non typical wedding clothes on. he had a proper 60s grey suit on with winkle pickers, and she had a 50s dress on with the big lacey skirt thing under it, both looked great, fresh from the set of heartbeat!

There's a great shop in Brum - opposite Hobgoblin Music - (Gibb Street, Digbeth) only sells retro clothing.
You'll definitely get a sweet suit (and shoes, tie, overcoat and hat) there...

theres 2 down that way, one along the same road as the hmv institue on the way to the custard factory, big glass windows and painted yellow around.
theres also the one in the entrance to the custard factory which im guessing is the one you suggested monty

I looked at getting a retro suit for ages, with no luck, I was worried about spending hundreds of pounds over ebay for it not to fit.
its all about the fit! And i have seen some shockers recently.
A good fitting suit is a very difficult thing to buy inline! I can sew and alter most clothing but was still apprehensive about buying a suit online.
In the end i ended up, ordering a custom one from thailand (found online). Was a scary process - ordered some sample, fabric swathes sent to me, picked one, picked a rough suit shape/style, provided lots and lots of measurements (kept these a little big), for adjustment.
Suit arrived, was spot on, a little big in places ( i wanted it skinny) altered the trousers and waistcoat myself and took the jacket along to an italian tailor.
Cost 300 pounds.
Or you could buy a slightly larger vintage suit and have that tailored.
