Hi i have a mini i'm building to sprint, i have most of the parts ready for the engine build only i have been told that their is limitations to yhe belt drive kits, my freind thinks they wont handle the high revving and abnormal power (compared to th std a-series)
My engine is a race 1430, 296 scatter cam, race head, the full spec is in the projects section
if anyone is running a belt drive can you help me ar comment at all?
thanks chris

I've not run one, but that's mainly because of the service interval which has been recommended... I have been advised that it's good practice to replace the belt every 6k miles, which frankly for a road engine is unacceptable, especially when you condisder the alternatives such as the kent high velocity (silent) chain drive. I have had one in an engine with 30k miles on it, with very little visible wear, and is fully vernier adjustable.
I put a thread on here somewhere a few months ago, a quick search will find it..

yeah i can see where your coming from, it is for a race engine so im still thinking. it's my race car so i'm only learning, and it looks like i might be doing it the expensive way! :nugget: thanks for the info

The only values that a belt drive has as an advantage over chain are now virtually gone. They were:
weight. (well I guess a piece of rubber can't help but win!)
noise. (the modern chains are now getting very good, but I guess that isn't a priority in a race car)
efficiency. (although now the roller chain is as effiecient as a belt)
I would reiterate what GW says about the service interval as being a major downside also.
Personally, I wouldn't bother. Just go for the Kent cams silent chain drive with the vernier pulleys. Aswell as being "better", it's also cheaper (IIRC)
I guess the only advantage now is the "I've got a belt drive A-series" down the pub. If anyone cares.......
