Model: Clubman Estate
Year: 1977

I've been having a few issues sealing my brake pressure switch after changing to braided front hoses.

I was thinking of changing from the pressure system to an electric switch.

Is it as simple as changing the union where the switch would be to a three way and wiring in a push the make switch under the brake pedal?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure about plugging the original switch location. My car's pressure switch failed and I simply left it in place. Then I made a bracket to mount a pedal switch to the pedal box and wired that switch in parallel to the original one.

Thanks, I can't get the switch to seal properly hence it's removal and hopefully changing to a different union.

Did you know that the goodridge hoses are handed?

If you've put them on the wrong way round that can lead to sealing issues.

I did not know this.

This is probably where I've gone wrong, a 50-50 chance!

The only other issue is that I've rounded off the nut that holds the pressue switch so hopefully I can find a replacement in a motor factors tomorrow morning as unlikely to have one delivered from Minispares etc before Tuesday now.

Thanks for pointing that out!

Yeah, neither did I!!!

If you look at the hoses one has a deeper thread, this is for the union side.

Hmmm.... Off to have a look at this now, but have been told from a different source that the hoses aren't side specific.

Anyway, I have everything I need now to change to electric brake switch so will be going with that. Hopefully it's quite simple!

Shifty - you were right! the hoses are side specific. There's nothing on the hoses at all the mention this, plus, from the outside they look exactly the same, only the inside is deeper. Fit straight up. Still changing to electric switch though. Seems the more reliable method.

Thanks again for you help.

I know I was right!!

Made exactly the same mistake myself.

Simon from minispares explained that one side is deeper due to people(like you) having sealing problems.

Standard hoses aren't handed, just the goodridge ones.
