HI,

I seem to be running in parallel with Fabdabcab at times.....

I welded up the R/h side of the flitch repair panel, but as per a previous post it was too wide. I made a vertical cut down down the repair panel so I could fit the L/h side to the A post / door post, trim as necessary and butt weld the two halves back together.

Anyway, I've bolted the driver's door back up to get the proper alignment and this panel's profile makes the gap far too wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. I expect I'll have to trim metal from the bottom and weld in extra at the top. I've got the Heritage panel to place over it when it's the correct profile.

How much clearance should I give the A panel to the leading edged of the door? I don't have a good example to measure from.

Thanks in advance,

Just seen Fabdabcab's post and replied to it, my first repair ever on a mini was the A Panel Info Here

Have you replaced the entire A Post and is that why the line is different to the original? Or have you just fitted new flitch repair panel?

On mine as we just replaced part of the A Post surround and the A Panel it all lined up OK had a bit of a problem with the door but that's because we had to replace the studs that bolt the door to the A Post. The door was sitting at a bit of an angle, opposite to yours and the door lock was too low, sorted this out by fitting a couple of extra washers to the top shim between the door hinge and the A Post.

How much room have you got on the gap side, you could try the same trick and add a couple of extra washers to give you more of a gap between the door and the A Panel?

by the way I too am a beginner ;))

Did mine at 4mm all the way round before paint. (some pics of how I went on on my build thread)

Anything closer at the front and there is a real chance of the leading edge of the door catching on the A panel as it opens.

Best of luck

That's too close for an A post, I'd trim it so it's about 10mm from the door edge when the door is bolted in place and the gap to the rear quarter is right, then fit the A panel, and aim to get the gap just slightly larger than the gap to the quarter.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to say that I'd slotted the hinge holes of the repair panel. If I hadn't it would be standing proud of the door by about 5 - 6mm.

JonnyAlpha - The A post was rust free behind the flitch panel, so it's just the flitch repair panel and A panel that I'm replacing. I bolted the door back on (complete with originally placed shims) and it appears to be lined up nicely around the top, bottom and 3/4 panel. A good thing too as there appears to be next to no adjustment from the bolt holes, however my garage is quite narrow so I can't stand back to get a proper look at or photo of all the door gaps simultaneously. ;) The door's level, it's this flitch panel edge next to the door that's not lining up.

Steve / Peter - Thanks for the notes. Since the door appears to be lined up on the other 3 edges, I'll trim the flitch panel back to give that 10mm clearance. That'll probably give ~8mm max clearance (?) once the A panel is eventually crimped up. No doubt there'll be more adjusting of the A panel when the front wings and front panel go on.
