I got my Rover Cooper back in 2007 and it was a great little car. I took it to Germany for a couple of years and literally as soon as I arrived it broke down and I couldn't firgure out what was wrong with it. Well with work and a bit of laziness and a girlfriend, it kind of got left for a while and now its at a stage where I want to give it a full rebuild.
I also bought what was intended to be a project car - originally with a Red Top engine for the full treatmeant. I then decided to make it supercharged and solely for track use.
However, I've been thinking now for a while about it. Two project cars is hard work - I never know which one to work on etc. On top of this, I've just bought a new car, I'm moving back to the Uk meaning a pay cut of around 300 a month and two projects is going to cost a lot of money - not helped by hiring two garages at 50 a month each.
So I've decided to change my plans and have just one car - Oliver is staying. However, this is going to be the chance to make Oliver be exactly what I want - the plans include a full webasto roof, supercharged engine (but not too over the top and staying as an SPi), a full leather interior with a decent sound system, uprated suspension and brakes, a few mk1 touches such as grill bonnet boot and rear lights. Hopefully, he will be a nice fast little road car thats not track orientated. If I still want a track car afterwards, then I might start another project. But two at a time is just not happening.
I anticipate about a year for completion - the big advantage being returning to the UK, and no girlfriend to distract me. The welding (just a few small things really) and paint job will be done by professionals, other than that I want to be doing as much of it myself as I can.
