ahh is it i was thinking of putting one in the backI think the R 1 engine is 998cc.... That would be my choice for a rear wheel drive mini. Or a hyabuuuuuusssssaaaa....

hi i have a bought a shell and have been thinking about auto cross i want to make i rear wheel drive but i only have a 998 engine is that to small or are there classes with that size of engine or do i need to buy myself a Yamaha r1 engine

The first is Class 1 which is for unmodified 1000cc Minis where everything has to be standard and the rules are very strict.
The other alternative is Class 4 which is for upto 1100cc cars with unlimited modifications but the engine must stay in it's original position BUT to be competitive in this class then you will need a full race spec engine.

autograss is very strict now, my boss races a twin bike engined mini in class 7, the car has 2 gsxr 1000cc bike engines in the back and produces nearly 400 bhp and is one of the quickest autograss mini's in the country, it does come at a cost tho, his car cost £24,000 to build, here is a pic

in class 1 you can have a 998 mini, the engine has to be completely standard with no mods allowed whatsoever, to be competitive you will need to have the engine professionally built, there is a couple of guys in class 1 that are acheiving well over 60bhp from a std 998, they always win!!
