ive got a Mini Neon in nordic blue (greyish/blue) and have bought some blue window tint and im wondering which way is better to apply it, on the outside of the car or the inside?

And when putting it on the Heated Rear Window how do you do it so when you put the heater strips on the tint doesnt come off? did that make sence? :S :L

Thanks
Rob Cool

Inside, and don't forget you can't put it on the windscreen or either of the front windows, so rear quarters and back window only.

Agreed its only the rear section of the car that you can tint if you do the front the coppers will pull you over make you pull a large piece of it off each window (so they know when you go home you will take the rest off) and then fine you for having it.

Trust me seen it happen

Its not a simple job to do. Does take a lot of practice.

Iv done all of mine myself, everyday cars as well as my mini, although had the rear screen done the first time as i couldnt do it, but iv now got the nack and im happy iv just done my first rear screen.

Rear sides are the easiest as they are flat.

Are you removing the windows to do them?

You will also find the quality of the film helps. The cheap 'halfords' stuff is really thin and scratches/peels easily, and i doubt it will form the rear screen curve very well at all.

The front windows and windscreen on post '85 cars must allow a minimum of 75% of light through.... pre '85 it is 70%.

a good way to get it flat without air bubbles and creases etc is to mix up a solution of washing up liquid and water in a squirty bottle, remove the windows and religiously clean them, wash them, wipe them over, use a stanley blade like a scrapper and run it over the window to remove any specs of dust and debris that have really stuck into the window.

this is for the rear sides and door windows -

using the spray bottle, give the window a good soaking on the inside surface, keeping the window flat and level, then comes the tint, cut the tint 2" oversize for the window, then peel the backing film off the tint about 2" (it becomes very static and tends to cling together if you try to remove it all at once, especially the cheap stuff!) get a couple of clothes pegs and peg the tint to the front flat edge of the window with the backing film between the window and the tint, then using both hands, pull the backing film towards you slowly until its removed compeletly, once removed, the water/washing up liquid acts as a barrier and stops the tint from sticking, using the squeegy supplied withe the kit, start from the middle and do a st georges cross on the tint, so your left with 4 sections, 1 by 1, work the water out with the squeegy and you should be left with a nice flatbubble free tinted window! allow any remaining water to evaporate/dry out between the glass and tint before trimming the excess tint off, or you'll risk tearin/moving the tint.

i did my van rear windows like this and thhey came out really well! ive not attempted a curved window before, but ive heard people cutting the tint into strips and using the heating elements on the rear screen to hide the joins! hope this helps at all
