Hi all...Is it possible to do a straight swap from old style 4 glass fuse holder to a spade fuse holder on a mini 1993?

I looked for ages and couldn't find a new fusebox with multiple connections per fuse - the standard mini one having two connectors each side of the fuse. I gave up in the end and just fitted a new mini one.

I fitted a 8 fuse box to my sisters, don't recall having do anything special to fit it.
I do believe the fuse ratings work different though, but you'd need check on that

To "upgrade" to blades, you need to halve the ratings - ie the top glass fuse = 35A, now you try finding a 17.5A blade fuse...

As previously mentioned, it's not just a straight swap as blade fuses are not rated in the same way that glass fuses are. As a rough guide some people do halve the fuse ratings when swapping over from one to the other, but as I understand it that is really only a very rough "rule of thumb" and is not all that precise. It would therefore be advisable to consult an auto elctrician before proceeding and as mentioned above you will also struggle to find a 17.5 Amp blade fuse! Also be aware that there are also 4 or 5 in line fuse holders behind the carb/ air filter housing, which you may wish to swap accross to blade fuses as well, if you do go ahead with the swap.
The other problem is that the standard classic mini fuse board has twin rows of terminals. Unlike most 4 fuse blade fuse boxes, each individual fuse has four terminals as opposed to two. The only option therefore is either an 8 fuse blade fuse box, or a four blade fuse box using piggy back connectors to attach two wires to each terminal where neccesary. In short unless you are dead set on fitting a blade fuse box, then the easiest option is to retain the glass fuse version.
