Hi all my car just failed the MOT on the windscreen so I need to replace it, I already have the replacement I got it with the car.

Could someone post an easy way to replace the windscreen, any tips and tricks would be most helpful.

Thanks

The easiest way to replace a windscreen is to have someone else do it!

but if thats not an option then the right tool, water and washing up liquid play a big part

i find it easiest to fit the new seal to the window frame, then sit the window into the rubber at the bottom middle and start pushing the rubber from the inside out (with an old screw driver that i rounded off) so it catches the window. i used car wash as apposed to washing up liquid ad it wont promote rust or anything like that

As said above, dont use washing up liquid as it has salts in it. I would recomend some KY jelly, its as slippery as anything and it wont drip everywhere like car wash will and it doesn't have any chemical nasties or anything (think about what it's used for!).

See this article in our FAQ section:

I have done a couple of glass installations recently and have found that "personal lubricant" from the family planning section of your pharmacy is a great lubricant to aid glass installation.

one of the recent mini mags does an article on this i was reading online the other night, pictures with a step by step guide, you can preview the mag online and it allows you 3 'zooms' to read for free, maybe someone on here read it and can tell you which issue?, i remember them using wd40 to fit, it did make it look simple, but i'd deffo use a new seal

Just fitted a front and rear screen in probably less than 1/2 hr

Fit seal to the frame first.
I used spray window cleaner as a lube worked a treat.
Put screen into bottom of seal as much as you can get in, then like mentioned above go round with a screw driver carefully and peel the seal over the glass.
As you peel keep tapping the screen down towards the frame locates the screen in the rubber. For most of the it will just be a case of pushing gently with the screw driver in the groove this will lift the rubber over the glass.
Don't go mad you'll chip the glass

Warm the sealer strip up in hot water first makes it more flexible.

The sealer strip get the correct fitting tool its essential. Push strip through the loop of the tool, Push end of strip into groove in the seal then go round with the tool in the groove, it will spread the rubber and you can use your non tool hand to press the strip into the groove.
Use plenty of your chosen lube.
Two methods work well with the tool, the slow steady push or the wiggle  using a slight side to side action to wiggle the tool along the groove. Just watched the video above :) he uses the wiggle ;)

oh it can be tiring on the arms :)

you can get the fillet tool with a roller which pushes the strip into the groove, probably the better tool, but mines just the diamond shaped loop type no roller
