I have had to to a repair on my front wing of my mg midget, i have sanded it back, bit of filler, primer and finally some black spray paint (halfords stuff). I put about 5 coats of standard gloss black paint on it, and am leaving it for at least a week to cure. What i am noticing is that the colour isnt as shiny as the rest of the panel/car. I haven't wet-sanded/g3'ed it yet, but there is quite a difference in colour and shine. When i bought the car, in the boot, there was both a tin of black spray paint, and a can of clear lacquer.

i am wondering how you put the lacquer on? i have never used it before. Do i still wet-sand the colour and use g3 to make it shine, then apply the lacquer?

totally confused, so any help would be great!

cheers

cheers for the quick response. After the lacquer has been rubbed down (to remove any imperfections), i take it i would use the g3 stuff to polish it?

I would go G3 followed by Perfect III then something like Polish Rosa or a good equivalent. I would use 2000 wet and dry to take out any imperfections using a block. I'm doing all of this on Project Erm but no clear coat.

wet sanded the paint today, and gave it a couple of coats of clear lacquer. Its looking really good, though there are several runs in the lacquer (really pee'ed off). will see how it looks once it has been sanded and g3'd

spent ages yesterday sanding it down, and polishing it, made sure that the paint work was blended in. Rolled the car out side, and realised that in the light, that the paint doesnt match :shifty: In the light, the new paint looks very charcoal-ish, where as the car is deep gloss black...sigh... i hate halfords
