Hi, Just nosing around under the bonnet of my 1991 cooper carb last night and I noticed a random bracket that wasnt being used for anything. It is located under the top engine steady bar and I think it comes off from the clutch slave cylinder? It has two small holes in the bracket and it looks like something is missing! Anyone one have any ideas what it is? Sorry I dont have any photos, will try to get some for 2moro. Thanks

If it's on the verto clutch slave cylinder mounting bracket, then it's where an anti judder device would go for the clutch. I've never seen one. But there's a picture in either the Mini or Metro Haynes manual.

That would be very interesting because I get a juddering through the clutch pedal when slowing down in gear. Thats why I was nosing around last night. I also noticed the front subframe tear drop mountings were quite loose so it could be that. The other thing i noticed was that the engine moves side to side when I turn the steering wheel. Could that be because of the teardrop bushes? Wow, i noticed alot last night!

ps. I wish it was a flux capacitor bracket complete with flux capacitor!

I think this could be it. It just said clutch slave cylinder in the catalogue.

ok yer it is part of the Verto clutch slave cylinder bracket so looks like there is nothing missing, just where an antijudder device can bolt onto. Thanks

Definitely sounds like you need to sort your front subframe mounts. The tower mounts will need doing as well as the teardrops if the engine is moving side to side as you turn the wheel.

That's the classic sign of worn tower mountings as Minimanclive said.

If it's on the verto clutch slave cylinder mounting bracket, then it's where an anti judder device would go for the clutch. I've never seen one. But there's a picture in either the Mini or Metro Haynes manual.

The Mini has never had such a device, the Verto clutch disc itself is designed to absorb judder. Maybe Metro had a damper for a while, but not for long I don't think.
