I had a 1974 Austin Mini Morris 1000, which I receltly sold, the new owner polietly asked if I could offer any advice as the mini is having gear issues so please understand this info is second person and described/translated as best as I can gather from the new owner.
The car goes into gear smoothly when the engine is OFF, however when the car is on, the gears are very difficult to get into, particularly first gear. I understand that she can get the car into gear when pressing the clutch VERY hard, sometimes its worse than others & she has no idea what its up to.
Any help ASAP on this matter would be greatly appriciated.
Regards
Stacey x

check for fluid in the clutch reservoir , also that the arm is actuating its full length on the slave cylinder when someone else is pressing down the clutch pedal and that the clutch arm hasnt become weak and bent out of shape .

some basics to start on

The clutch arm and plunger are a common wear point, rarely do they bend however, unless yo uhave a really old one.... as in Mk1 maybe Mk2

But the fault you describe certainly sounds like a clutch disengagement issue.....

So check all of the linkage from the clutch master cylinder forward....

Try the following to assess the wear in the arm and plunger...

nice write up there on your website , a good step of processes to follow !

Would be great if you could link to the specific parts in the shop once the offending object is found , so if its the hose from the slave to the master cylinder then a link to the correct array or avalible pipes etc .

i have had the exact same problem, its most probably the master cylinder. just top it up and bleed the slave cylinder and it should work again for a couple of months but its best if you replace it. Look for fluid underneath the cylinder or run your hand up the clutch inside the car and see if you can feel any fluid, or it could be a broken seal somewhere.
