Hello
Whilst out this weekend on the riviera run. One of my wheels became loose. The numpty at the garage where I had my rear tyres fitted didn't tighten them up enough resulting in my wheel coming loose. I managed to pull over and tighten the nuts up 1st of all with my fingers then with a socket. Could this of caused any fatal damage or should it be ok. I did have it up on a jack back at the caravan and seemed to spin ok with no movement. I'm worried now it may of buckled the wheel. The garage is certainly going to hear about it tommorrow.

Regards
Scott

i woul;d take another wheel and use a micrometer to measure the wear off another wheel / alloy where the studs go through and compare with the one which became loose . Same checks for the studs also on the collars for any where , any indication of wear will mean replacing the studs etc .

Also be prepared for the "50 mile rule" speal at the garage , we advise all customers to recheck the torque of their wheel nuts at 50 miles and then again at 250 miles just incase !!! If they didnt advise you this i dont know here you stand as is more of a curtsy thing to advise the customers this and to stop instances of wheels coming loose and people coming after you with a wrench

But end of the day if youve paid for a service at a garage they should of use a calibrated torque wrench on most items after referring to recommended data sources etc

i will say i dont know of the tollerance of wear but id play it by if the studs / alloy are more worn than the average of the others not to use them and to replace them personally .

I had this happen to me on the FNS wheel, I tightened it up and rechecked them all then again after 50 odd miles & they have been ok since. As long as the holes in the wheel for the studs aren't oval or out of shape then the nut should be able to hold uniformly without any problems. I now check my nuts regularly & especially before a long run.
