Mine is very much like AVV IT has but I also include a set of points & condenser (a used but still serviceable set). All fits into a small tool box that goes under the rear seat. But really, with what you can usually accomplish at the side of the road, could probably pare it down to a couple fuses, duct tape, a screwdriver, pair of pliers, a pack of cigarettes, a bottle of beer, a cell phone and a AAA/RAC club membership card!!

Mobile phone + AA/RAC = 90 minute wait at the side of the road in the rain for spotty youth to arrive who says "I dunno anything about old cars mate... where do I plug my laptop in?", followed by a two hour wait for recovery vehicle to a local garage that isn't open in the evenings, at weekends or on bank holidays. AA/RAC give you a lift to a local hotel who charge you "an arm and a leg" for overnight accommodation until the garage opens, because you didn't book far enough in advance. Walk to local garage next day to be greeted by another spotty youth who says "I dunno anything about old cars mate.....you'll have to wait until Thursday when Bert comes back off his holiday"...... walk to nearest Halfords and purchase a small selection of tools yourself, walk back to garage, fix car yourself on their forecourt, drive home, cancel breakdown membership and spend next years premium on beer!! :proud:

EDIT on original tool kit list:

+ Torch
+ Waterproofs

Mine is very much like AVV IT has but I also include a set of points & condenser (a used but still serviceable set).

Replace points and condenser with electronic ignition!!....... that's two less things to carry and now you probably won't break down in the first place :(

1/2 and 10mm spanner, screw driver, duct tape , blade, wd40, hammer, small jack and wheel brace. Not much else you should really need, However i did carry my halfords set around for a while. could change an engine on the side of the road if needed :proud:

For all mechanical problems all you need is a roll of duct tape, a hammer and a can of WD40:
If it should move and it doesn't hit it with a hammer and spray it with WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't, tape it up with duct tape. If that doesn't solve the problem then it must be an electrical issue, so send for an electrician :proud:
