Hi all,

Im having trouble with my Spi mini.

When driving it it suddenly cut out and then wouldnt start again. The RAC came and sprayed something into where the air filter sits and then jiggled the inline fuses about and hey presto it started.

But.... then when driving it would just loose power and effectively the engine just shut down. This happened at different RPM and the car would simply need restarting/bumping and then it would be OK for a while and then the same thing would happen. It would also do this if left just idling.

So, in order to try and mimic what the RAC guy did I went through all the inline fuses one at a time, rubbed the fuses down and then reinserted them.

Now the car wont start at all.

I tried looking at the inertia switch and think that there may be a problem with that:

1. It has snapped off the mount where it is attached to the bulkhead (the RAC guy said that as long as it was facing the right way that shouldnt be a problem).
2. When you press the button in it doesnt seem to do anything, should the button stay down as at present it just has a 'squidgy' feel to it.
3. I unclipped it and had a look and there is a heavy rattling sound like a ball-bearing or something is rattling around inside.

Could this be the problem and the reason why the car won't start and was doing the wierd shut down thing before that?

Thanks in advance

Craig

If you sort this out, i'd love to know what you done.

Mine has done exactly the same thing, driving down the road and bang. Everything cut out. Car will turn over but just won't fire into life. The AA guy seems to think that the intertia switch had "popped up" but it feels squidgy like you say.

I'm at my wits end with this car!

Like I said if you get this sorted, please let me know.

Many thanks

Jack

I've been out and had another look at my switch. I must admit, it feels better than I remember.

Good luck with it. I'm checking its not the ECU earth wire come loose/frayed because mine hasn't fired since it broke down.

Cheers

well if you car is currently not starting easiest way to test if its the inertia switch is 2 things , one is that if the switch is engages when you first turn on the ignition it will not allow the fuel pump to engages so you wont hear the usual wirring of the pump priming the system also if you remove the plug from the bottom of the inertia switch and bridge the plugs connectors with some wire or some wire with 2 small male spades pushed into its connectors and then try starting the car and all is well then it is ze switch !!!!

The pump not priming is a tale tale sign but just incase the inertia switch is ok and you dont hear the pump priming then check the fuel pump relays etc !!!

I cant hear any whirring but to be honest I dont kn ow if i ever hear that or maybe its just that i dont listen out for it?

Tried swapping the relays over and still nothing so doesnt look like its that? Which of the inline fuses should I be looking at in case its anything to do with that???

How would I check the actual fuel pump??

Sorry for all the questions.

the pump is normally loud enougth to hear , so its either being inhibited by something or as you say a blown fuse etc . check fuse number 11 in the fuse box , should be a 10amp fuse ( Normaly red ) which is for the fuel pump , also try bypassing the inertia switch seeing as it possibly caused problems already just to rule it out

its inside your fuel tank unless you have an after market one fitted , i believe its the white - square - block plug on the top of your fuel tank that goes to the fuel pump if my memory serves me right . test for continuity across the 2 connectors on the tank , no continuity will put doubt about the pumps condition .
