I have also notivced that the rev counter doesn't always work and when I use a timing light the ignition advance stayes fixed.
any help/advice would be much appreciated.
thanks
Matt

Have you made sure you are using the correct com port?
Some USB adapters aren't compatible so it might be worth trying it on a proper RS232 serial port.
Also, the MJ does have power?

I have to say with the lack of Advance and the non-communication I don't think the Megajolt unit is receiving power

I have powered the megajolt through the existing cable that went to the ignition coil, the green led does light up when the ignition is on maybe needs a direct power feed from the battery?

there are only a handfull of serial to USB convertors that seem to work with the megajolt unit.
search the internet for megajolt and it should bring up a site that lists where to get ones that work from

It also depends on what map is installed on the MJ unit as to whether the advance will do anything. It depends if the map is installed or just at blanket advance.
I use a belkin USB to com adaptor, and managed to download a driver for windows 7 and it works fine, but I have heard of other adaptors causing problems, try the autolabs forum.
Are you using MAP or TPS as it may be affecting the advance, or the PIP and SAW wires not being connected correctly.
Get the comms sorted and the rest should become apparent.

If the led is on then there's electrickery reaching the MJ & it ought to register with your computer. I'd try & sort that one first.
If you haven't already, open up device manager on your pc; find your adapter in the com & LPT list and make sure you have the same one selected in the configurator software. You can also try reducing the baud rate for the port (double click it in device manager).
