Has anyone tried this method?
Marvel Mystery Oil in cylinders
Here in Sweden there are a lot of people on SAAB-forums that use this method but with WD40 to free up sooty and stuck oil control rings...
I´don´t think we have Marvel Mystery Oil here...

Would really like an opinion if it´s OK to try this, since my Mini uses A LOT of oil.
Refurbished head (new seals, everything done by a pro).
Compression tests OK.
However it is still using a lot of oil - and I mean A LOT. About 1 decilitre in 20 kilometers (sorry but I don´t know how to translate into british standard )
Smokes when revving hard but not a lot, but drives OK.
It has been in a garage for years and since I put her on the road she has only done short trips (cold starts). Can this cause this?
I will probably take the engine apart next winter - however, if this would solve my problem it would be a lot easier...

Please - if you´ve any experience of this (good or bad), tell me!

Tja Magnus, - Assuming you have checked everywhere for leaks, and are using a good 20w50 grade oil, I suppose you might as well give the additive a go - But I would be more inlcined to double check the Valve stem Oil seals - I know you said it was done by a pro - but the amount of times people get 'caught out' by 'professionals' is alarming (at least in the UK it is), I have had seen heads 'remanufactured' without stem seals at all

The winter would be a good time to Take the engine apart (I think it's safe to assume the snow will come as hard as it did last year!) regardless of the outcome - I suspect you the treatment you are talking about will not cure the amount of oil you seem to be burning as it suggests they are worn, rather than dirty and stuck.

Sorry i cannot be any more specific to the Brand of product - I have had no experience of that particular additive.

Incidently - I drove to Sundsvall last year from Arvika - Lovely Drive!

I am a bit surprised to see Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) discussed on a U.K. board. I didn't think it was available in Europe.

MMO is an old-time product that has been used for years in the U.S. It is touted as having almost magical powers to remove deposits, loosen debris, free stuck parts, etc. It is commonly used to free stuck engines that have been sitting for decades. WD-40 is not a similar product, I would not use the two interchangeably.

It will not hurt to try all the home-brew cleaning and restorative methods attributed to MMO. However, count on it making the engine smoke quite badly until all the excess oil burns off/out. If it works for you... great. If not, you have only invested a little money and time.

I was not aware wether it was in use in Britain or not - in Sweden it´s not anyway. Here they use WD-40 or 5-56 - rumours say even at SAAB-garages since a few newer SAAB-models have trouble with sticking oil control rings.

So - I´ll try this method (with WD-40). If it doesn´t work I´ll have to tear the engine apart :D
