Hi,

I have a '94 mini

I've changed over from a servo to non servo with a yellow tag master. After a massive setback with the rear brakes (nipple sheared :) So I ended up replacing both rear brakes completely as I had the parts) I've finally got round to bleeding the brakes, I bought a Eezibleed to use and it all went okay. Got in to test the pedal and it looks like the new master has peed out brake fluid from the piston rod doo dah. It looks like one of the seals inside the master has failed? :P

Annoyingly the unit is brand new from Minispares and was purchased around Christmas, I've only really come to fitting and bleeding it now.

My question is using the eezibleed to blame for this or is it a manufacturing fault? It was used well within the limits, it says no more than 20psi but I was using about 10-15 to be on the safe side.

Pretty peed off seeing as its not the first time I've trouble with master cylinders from Minispares and its a big setback again, the car needs to be ready for L2B :)

Does sound like a leaking seal to me. I wouldnt have thought that the eezibleeder had anything to do with it.

I would get onto minispares and see what they say

I could see the Easibleed blowing fluid past the seal if you touched the pedal while it was pressurised. I don't think it would cause permanent damage to the seals.

Didn't touch the pedal once everything was pressurised. Only after I'd finished and taken the pressure off, once I had came inside to sulk and gone back out take the master off the puddle in the footwell has become bigger and it seems to coming from the silver rod.

Should the rod and ball at the end of it be completely dry normally?

Seems Minispares find it difficult to replace such a thing without waiting for me to send it back at my own cost and have it tested. Last time this happened to me with some single line masters I had been waiting for about a month and I didn't hear anything, I had to make contact again to finally get a replacement set which were then returned personally for a refund after the plating went wrong for a second time.

The seals have to withstand pressures FAR beyond 20psi. More like 3000psi. The only reason why you should not use it with more pressure is the fact that the brake fluid reservoir is not designed to be pressurized. If it's really leaking down the master cylinder, there must be something wrong with it.
