You may have read about my misfire. changed the plugs, leads, dizzy cap, coil, points and condensor. The only thing that made a difference was a new condensor but that only lasted for a couple of trips. Tried another new condensor because they are cheap and things were cured again but as before this only lasted a couple of trips. Why am i going through condensors?

Are your points pitting up and burning quickly as well?

MAybe. Will have to check up on that one. When i bought my new coil i got the lucas sport coil which is a high performance one. Maybe it needs a high performance condensor although i have never heard of one.

Ah, the plot thickens... does your coil have a pinky sort of coloured wire and a white and yellow one going to the +ve terminal ???

If so you have a ballast igntion which runs of a lower voltage than the sports coil needs... this would certainly cause a misfire as the coils only getting 8V instead of 12V, and hence you spark will be weakened

Replace coil with Ballast coil and resume happy motoring...

Well if it's not got ballasted ignition it should be white. It it's pink with a white tracer then it's a ballast wire.

Your points shouldn't be building up residue that quickly, I was thinking the same as Guessworks about the ballasted system which is why I was asking about the points. Only I was guessing that you had a ballasted coil in a non ballasted system but maybe it's the other way round.

Its just not possible. Have had a dlb 105 lucas sports coil for years. car developed a misfire so i relaced all the ignition parts including the coil. i changed the coil for another dlb105 lucas sports coil. It cannot be the wrong coil. Could i have put the wires on the wrong way round? The Pos wire is red with no tracer. What is the little canister that is like half an aa battery (not the condensor) that is wired into the negative on the coil and is bolted onto the coil clamp?

Surely it is not possible to inadvertently change your system to a ballasted ignition. The coil is the same as the one that was on before these problems.
