Have you tried connecting the rear speakers to the front? If wiring isnt the problem, there might be a blown fuse in the head unit!

The way the PO wired it, the positive wires from the front speaker and tweeter go into one spade connector, and the negative of both go to a spade. Is it ok for them to be wired in like this? I don't have any experience with tweeters.

This has been the same case for 2 or 3 fully working HUs. I'll be honest I've not tried running them on the terminals for the rears. Good idea and I'll give it a go. But then it seems odd for the front speaker terminals on several HUs to be broken.

like this?

ignore that fact the digram shows subwoofers.
If that is the way it wired then the load on the HU will be 2ohm. it might not be able to handle this low ohmage. But if this was the problem i would expect the speakers/HU to work at low volumes then 'give up' at higher volume.
Also there should be a capacitor in + feed to the tweeters otherwise they will be playing full range.
Have you tried running new cable to the speakers? or even other speakers as a test?

Have also just tried connecting them to the rear speaker terminal but they still don't work. Will try new wiring when I get time in the week.

Yep, like that. I haven't tried other wire or speakers, I've only just had the chance to take the dash out and sort some other gremlins. Should I get it working, what value capacitor should I use? I can't find a model number on them but they are very ordinary looking Sony tweeters like these. Best I can do at the moment.

A 10uf Cap will cross out everything below 4000hz (ish)
wire them like this.

item code, VM93B
But have a good look at the tweeters before you order anything, they might have something as standard built in.
Get me the model number and i'll try and check for you.

Also i prefer to use 4.7uF down to 2.2uF bipolar caps (the lower the value, the higher the frequency crossing...on my PA cabs i have some JBL tweeters with 1uF caps...really tingly!)
