Evening folks me again!!!!

Right have finally sorted out all other problems with car and was finally ready to giv her a go at starting, altho all i got was a click then some smoke!!!! :w00t:

i dont know if its the wiring i have done wrong or if the starter is knackered, wiring is.

white to + on coil.
white/black comes from dizzy then splits in 2, 1 goes to - on coil other back to white/black from wiring loom.
white/yellow from dizzy to + on coil.
Another wire that someone has put in from + on coil to the starter solenoid

It is electronic ignition by the way on a 1275 engine.

If this all seems ok then does anyone know anything else it could be?

Cheers

Gaz

White and yellow from dizzy?

White/yellow is the starting ballast bypass on ballasted ignition cars. You shouldn't have a white/yellow on a car fitted with a white wire to the coil, and you shouldn't have any wires running from the coil + to the dizzy at all except perhaps with certain aftermarket ignitions that have ignored the wiring colour standard.

What electronic ignition is it, and what's this extra wire about? I suspect I know and it could well mean that you have blown up your module, hence the smoke.

could you give me an idea of how it should be wired then please because there are wires that have been added so i am at a complete loss. i found a wiring diagram which i followed except i had completely different colours and hence it didnt work!!!!

Not completely without knowing which electronic ignition it is. If it's the type which fit completely inside the distributor then you pretty much wire it the same as standard ignition but then take an extra feed to the module to power it. If it's one of the older systems then there will be a seperate module somewhere which needs wiring and then a fairly large loom to run from that to the distributor.

Also you need to identify the type of ignition system you have as it sounds like you've got a butchered ballasted system.

Hi just had a lok at ur pics. I have an MG metro 1275 engine in my mini and the distributer looks the same as urs. My ignition moduel is wired to the coil. One wire to + and one the the - The other conections to the coil are a power feed and a connection the the rev counter. Hope that helps. Cant really tell where your wires go looks like the either both go to the same side of the coil or only one of them is connected to the coil and the other goes somewhere else.

At the min i have

White feed to the coil
a cable that has been added from the solenoid to + on the coil
black/white from dizzy to - on coil and also splits back to loom (rev counter)
white/yellow from dizzy to - on the coil

This sounds the same as you have on yours!!!!!!
