OK, so it's bugs-smeared-all-over-the-windscreen time and with the long trek to London and then Brighton and back, it's inevitable that the screen is going to get messy.

What products do you use or what other tricks do you have?

A bug sponge and normal car shampoo works fine for me.

Autoglym active insect remover and one of those sponges with the net round it. Spray it on, leave it for 30 seconds, gently wipe with the sponge and rinse off, even smells quite nice and it safe to use on the paintwork too.

I use it all the time on my car and van, both are pretty slab-fronted like the Mini so get covered in flies/insects.

Best way...

Newspaper! even just newspaper and some water will be ok... but newspaper and some window cleaner - any type really... the paper acts as an abrasive... and will get those damn things off easily! trust me... it does work!

mr muscles window and glass to remove the bugs stuff first, dont be shy with it, wipe it all off with a soft rag, if there are smears, wipe a bit harder, but if itls only a slight bit it will go, its got a no smear formula in it! then if you want a really clear screen, auto glym glass polish afterwards! does an awsome job!

never use a sponge when cleaning a car

get a mf and a qd and the flies will just wipe off mate, can also use this to do your whole car when you get to brighton.

Don't use vinegar! It can eat into the paint.

But... we're cleaning the windows... as long as your careful - there is no reason for any to come into contact with the paint..

Bar Keepers Friend - can be found in ASDA, Tesco etc. Wonderful stuff for cleaning glass, first read about it on Detailing World.
