Hi,
I might just be being really dumb but I cant work out what my rear brake lights are doing.
One of the brake lights is out, but the bulb still lights up when I turn the lights on. I swapped the bulbs over and the working bulb worked in the socket that the broken one had come out of, so I figure its a problem with the bulb.
I buy some LED bulbs from halfords (as they dont have red ones) put it in the socket and it lights up when the lights are turned on but it dosnt light up when i push the brake pedal :nugget:
Whats going on? If the working bulb works as a brake light in both sockets then the sockets cant be at fault but when i put a new bulb into the socket it dosnt work.
Any help is much appreciated!

arent brake lights the dual filament ones so the rear lights may work but the filament for the brake is broken.
Try that and try the broken bulb in the good socket to prove it isnt a fluke

Thanks pooky, the switch is sound though as it works fine with the good bulb in.
Miniboo - thanks that could well be the problem. Perhaps the led bulbs are at fault, but ive searched threads where people say they have put them in with no problems so i cant see why they wouldnt work?

You can get more than one type of LED bulb for the rear, some are tail lights only others are brake lights and tail lights. That might be the problem?

good idea to check, but i got the rear LED's from halfords (because they don't stock red bulbs) and they work fine. You can get more than one type of LED bulb for the rear, some are tail lights only others are brake lights and tail lights. That might be the problem?

does it have the numbers 1156 or 382 on the packaging? If so these are to replace single filament bulbs ie just tail lights or just brakelights but not both in one bulb. The ones which do both should have 1157 or 380 I think from a quick search. I had a look at them recently because a friend of mine wants some for his golf and he needs the single filament type.

Nothing on the packaging but 382 is written on the bulb, so i have definatly bought the wrong ones. Thanks for your help.
